Description

As a psychic FBI agent, I always get the bad guy--until I'm assigned a Dracula copycat case that bites back.

Getting my man this time means entering a mysterious underworld where, not every serial killer is human, not every case can be solved, and not everyone can survive.

Standalone urban fantasy novel. No cliff hanger. Received 4 stars from Ind Tales Magazine.

"Filled with action and intrigue, “Rare Stakes” is a paranormal read that dives in head first."

"Ms. Fox is a talented storyteller with a creative paranormal world."

"... engaging from beginning to end and filled with twists and turns."

EXCERPT

The most innocent things could hold more darkness than I ever wanted to see.

Today's example: Takeout.

What could be so terrible about takeout? Normally, it was awesome. I lived on the stuff. I read the menus like the bible. But this wasn't that kind of takeout.

I stared at the Styrofoam containers on the table. My stomach was already cringing, looking for a place to hide. The containers gleamed virgin white under the fluorescent lights of the FBI conference room, but their contents were not quite so pure.

Each carton had a handwritten label on top. One read, Marion--bright and charming. Another read Stacey--good body. The last, Eileen--agreeable.

The writing was large with strong vertical strokes and half-closed loops. I wondered what a handwriting analyst would make of it.

Was there a particular flourish that indicated someone was a cannibal?

I loved this read. This was definitely a unique view of the super natural & I especially like the main character. Amelia, she’s got a Lost Girl/Buffy vibe. Her new case throws her a curve ball that changes everything.

This book is one of the most vivid books I’ve read in a while. I love how you can picture everything the author describes. The mystery of the story kept me going and there was many things I did not see coming. I enjoyed her take on the FBI/Supernatural and cannot wait to read the next book!!

I am not usually one for reading about serial killers but I actually enjoyed this book. It didn’t go into too much detail of the deaths and it was quite interesting to learn about Mel and her gifts. Unfortunately for her she was reluctant to listen about the strength of vampires but she found a way to use her powers to her advantage. It was a very interesting story.

I have never read anything from this author before but I will definitely be picking up more of her books. I enjoyed the unique view of vampires, the fey, and psychics and how she was able to create a new world that encompasses them all. Mel is a psychic FBI agent investigating murders that seem to be done by a Dracula copycat. She soon finds out that there is more to the world than she knows and she is in the thick of it. She meets Maxim, who claims to be a vampire but one that doesn’t conform to the legends that she is used to. She does, of course, close the case but in doing so learns a little more than she bargained for. This is the first book in a series and I am looking forward to seeing what happens to Mel and how she copes with her new world view and Maxim.

A paranormal murder mystery. The story follows Mel as she tries to find a serial Killer. She is a psychic working for the FBI. As the story goes she learns that there is more in the world then we believe. She also learns about herself and how much more she is capable of. The story has some interesting twists. By the end I really was rooting for Mel. With the help of new and old friends she may just survive and solve the case.

This is the first book I have read by this author and it will not be the last! From the first chapter, you are drawn into a web of mystery and intrigue while on the hunt for a serial killer. I loved each character…they are written in such detail that you feel like you are part of the investigation. I can’t wait to see the direction this series moves to. I am intrigued with Maxim..I need to know more. Download and enjoy!❤️❤️🤣❤️

  • Different take on Vampires

I liked this book. It was definitely a different take on vampires than I’ve ever read before. I like the plot, although it’s pretty slow paced. The FMC Amelia “Mel” Larson is a psychic FBI agent, who doesn’t know all the facts about her past. Her and her partner Jim get called to Cleveland to work a serial killer case. While investigating the case Mel learns that what she thought were just creatures of myth are, in fact, real. The lead detective in the Cleveland PD is a non believer, and in my opinion was bitter and b*tchy to Mel. Mel meets Maxim at a club while following a lead on the case, there’s tension between them, but they eventually reach a tenuous alliance. Meanwhile, Mel left her boyfriend, Brendan, behind in DC… I don’t know much about him because he’s not involved in this story much, other than him having a big secret. The case is solved, but I will admit that the villain was a bit predictable I would recommend this book to anyone who like crime/investigators pnr. It’s a good one. I will continue to read this series to see how Mel’s story plays out.
