Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author of It Starts with Us and It Ends with Us held readers spellbound with her novel Hopeless, the story of what happened when a troubled girl named Sky encountered a long-lost childhood friend, Dean. Now, in Losing Hope, we finally learn the truth about Dean Holder.

Haunted by the little girl he couldn’t save from imminent danger, Holder’s life has been overshadowed by feelings of guilt and remorse. He has never stopped searching for her, believing that finding her would bring him the peace he needs to move on. However, Holder could not have anticipated that he would be faced with even greater pain the moment they reconnected.

In Losing Hope, Holder reveals the way in which the events of Sky’s youth affected him and his family, leading him to seek his own redemption in the act of saving her. But it is only in loving Sky that he can finally begin to heal himself.

As the second book in this series, I felt like it was basically a repeat of the first book with a few chapters of additional insight to the other characters point of view. I do love how crazy this story line is and definitely kept my attention, I just wish there was more variation between the first and second book of this series.

This is such an amazing book with such a deep, warming story behind it. However, trigger warning to some, there are some very strong topics tied into the novel.
  • Mostly a repeat

Took me only a couple hours to read. Only the journal entries and a few paragraphs were different from the first book. I had to skip through so much because I had just read the exact same story with the exact same quotes from Sky’s point of view. Almost copied and pasted %75 of the first book. I would have loved to have read more about who Holder was before he found Sky or about their relationship after the main plot. Maybe could’ve dug into his relationship with his sister a little more or her relationship with the ex boyfriend. I love all of Colleen Hoover’s books that I’ve read so far, but this one was disappointing and seemed rushed.

I like everything I’ve read from Colleen Hoover. Until this point. I felt like i was skipping so many pages just to see what was in the suicide note. It seemed to be the only thing worth looking forward to. I do appreciate the ending and the extra insight into what happened during the month they did not speak, but it did not take long for me to realize this “other perspective” was the same story twice. Ive appreciated Colleen’s ability to write from two perspectives, but when you’re switching chapter to chapter you are moving along in the story line instead of adding massive amounts of repetition. This book almost felt like she needed to hurry to meet a deadline. So very disappointing in comparison to her other amazing work. Ill not be finishing this series, and will be more cautious about the books i purchase in the future.
  • The perfect end to this specific story

I read the first book “Hopeless” recently and absolutely enjoyed every minute of it but I was even more thrilled to find this second book. Seeing how Sky and Holder both work through their trauma together from both perspectives really helps create a better picture of the story itself. It’s a beautiful book and I recommend it highly for those who know what it feels like to love passionately because Colleen Hoover hit the nail right on the head with this series.

I loved the new details that came from Holder’s point of view but a lot of it was exactly the same as Hopeless. Still a great book and worth the read!
