Poor ending! A real downer. Don’t bother with this one.

Jake, a medically discharged Navy Seal, lost his leg in an IED blast while on tour in Afghanistan. Since being discharged, Jake has had a hard time finding his purpose in life. Jake drinks his nights and days away feeling sorry for himself-until Kujo shows up at his doorstep with an offer. Hank Patterson, head of Brotherhood Protectors, wants to expand his business into Colorado. A former Marine Gunny Tate has a failing dude ranch. So Hank sends Kujo to drag Jake out of his stupor to see if the security business and dude ranch are a good fit. While Jake is reluctant and doesn’t see how he can possibly be of any assistance to anyone, he agrees to go with Kujo. Rucker Juliet Tate, only child to Gunny, works alongside her dad at the dude ranch. Nothing is a secret. When the Brotherhood Protectors offer to rent a place on the ranch, and help out with chores and in the bar for free, it’s too good to be true. When RJ witnesses a murder and is almost murdered herself, she reluctantly agrees to the added income and security. Working alongside Jake brings out feelings she’s never felt before, but she knows he has a secret. What an EXCELLENT start to this new series!!! I loved it! The suspense, the dude ranch in Colorado, RJ and Jake...swoon! I loved that RJ didn’t tell Jake how he should feel, but let him work through things himself. I loved that Striker was a retired military bomb sniffing dog with a disability. The mining for gold theme was unique and enjoyable. I can’t wait to learn more about Thorn and Jojo. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
