Charles Godfrey Leland (1824-1903) was an American writer working in the genres humour and satire and collecting folklore. He studied American and European traditions and travelled a lot while working as a journalist. Leland became famous for his comic book 'Hans Breitman's Ballads'.
This a is an old Indian legend that was collected and retold by Charles Leland. it tells us of a traditional character of the Indian folklore - Glooskap, an omnipotent god. So he comes into this world appearing among Wabanaki and begins doing his magnificent deeds, such as giving names to animals and many others.
