JUST MATATA

MATATA means trouble in Swahili, as Chico discovers in 1928, after jumping ship on a journey from Goa, India,  to Kenya. He manages to navigate a way of life under the segregated colonial structure, dreaming only of one day returning to Goa. Enter son, Lando (who recounts Just Matata) and the multi-faceted tales that straddle two distinct colonies in mid 20th century. The stories, alternatively funny, sad and evocative, lead the reader  through an unpredictable safari, shaped by external and internal politics,  cultural differences, race, religion and love, and destiny-changing events in life’s perpetual journey, set in an natural environmental ‘paradise’.
