Initially, I was not so impressed either this book as it seemed a standard spy story. But the characters captivated me and the plot slowly became more intriguing until I couldn’t guess where it was going and just had to follow. In the end, I happily accepted that I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Well done!

This story holds up! Great stuff even as unlikely as it is. New movie comes in April, a remake of the 1981 movie. Goes to show that good stories never get old

The Amateur is written so convincingly that I felt like it passed over from the line of fiction into the line of reality. I could sense a feeling of Heller, the main character, having been betrayed by those he believed in and at the same time his unprofessionalism in his role at the CIA, gave him a feeling of superiority because his grasp of the fine implications of each action performed by CIA superiors. I suggest you read it and hopefully it’ll be as thoroughly enjoyable as it was for me.
Not the best Littell (the father) book

The electronic copy was damaged towards the end of chapter 1. For the rest, this clearly isn’t Dear Robert Littell’s best book, IMO not as taught or crazy as his best. I should have known when I saw the Mick Herron endorsement.
