But this was a story with a heart that kept me in suspense for the entire read. I forced myself to not read ahead….because I wanted to know the stories behind each of the players and I wanted to find out more about how they could play football silently….how deafness enabled them to play masterfully. I learned so much about deafness…and I had a failed cochlear implant..so I am also challenged by hearing issues. This is my book choice for my two book clubs.

As a person who can hear, i learned a lot about the world that a deaf person lives in. And how a group of deaf football players, their coaches, and families bond together for what’s described in the book as a “community”. I love sports but this book took me out of my comfort zone and it was not only a good read but very educational.
