An enjoyable read with strong 1800s fantasy atmosphere, numerous interesting allegories, engrossing scenes and locations, and memorable characters, albeit with a rather uncompelling protagonist, semi-episodic structure, limited side character development, and a somewhat sudden feeling ending. It’s an enjoyable read, but definitely an old-fashioned fantasy allegory rather than a dramatic novel, so have an idea of what to expect going in, but don’t read spoilers; let the twists and turns take you along for the ride.
