Do not buy this book. Stop at book 12 and pretend that's the end. That was a pretty good ending to a light read and overall fun series. This novella, however, spent half it's time rehashing scenes from the previous book told from another perspective. And while there were moments of fun, most of the rest was tedium relieved only by its overall brevity. Then it ends, no, there is no ending, it suddenly stops in the middle of a conversation, and I had to wonder if there was some technical glitch. But I guess not. Obviously milking the series for a few more bucks when his heart wasn't in it.

The plot is less focused than previous books in the series. The book ends abruptly. I have read that the original book was split into two novels; the ending is certainly consistent with that. Apparently the publishers are in no hurry to bring out the second half.

Good.

Too obviously a middle book in a series. There was not three chapters in the book that were really pertinent to the continuance of the storyline and I thought if I had to read "more in sorrow than in anger" one more time I was going to throw my phone! Not what I've come to expect from David Weber.

I really have enjoyed the Honor Herrington series. Can't put these books down.

Not only does this book tell a successful story with sympathetic complex characters, it makes concrete some of the tensions with in our current world and domestic politics. Like all good science fiction this novel (and the series) extrapolates present trends into the distant future and to see what might shake out. This series has captured my imagination in a way that invades my thinking today when I read the newspaper. I can’t wait for the next installment.

David Weber has written another excellent book in the Honorverse series. Plenty of nice twists and turns. A quick read. I highly recommend it.
