And the mountains echoed

Very skilled and talented author. The chapters do not always flow well so you may struggle to pick up the story from one to the next. I don’t understand why so many authors have to now interject homosexuality in their stories. 95 %+ of the world is heterosexual and it would have been a better book without it.
Beautiful and tragic

It is beautifully written. Carefully tells of challenges for the simple people. Important to know this even if fictional.
Emotionally gripping

I’ve read “Kite Runner” and “A Thousand Splendid Suns”. Compared to those two novels this one is more emotional.

“The rope that pulls you from the flood can become a noose around your neck.”
A collection of nine short stories of sorts that all intertwine with the central story that starts off in the beginning. The writing is so beautiful and full of charm, sadness, and hope.

I don’t usually get so emotionally involved when reading fiction. But this book hit me hard. Superb writing. Worth every minute of your time.

Do not go into this book expecting Kite Runner or Thousand Splendid Suns as this is more of a super long novella exploring the complexities of human nature. It’s far more meditative and slow than The Kite Runner or A Thousand Splendid Suns to say the least. Overall, I would still recommend it, but if one were to dislike it, I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised.
Dragged out.

I didn’t like this book as much as Hosseini’s other books. I felt like there was no central message or theme. It felt like it was all over the place. I kept reading it just so I can be finished with it and to me, the ending wasn’t worth it.

The first 2/3 of this book was outstanding! The characters and settings were very well developed. About 15 times I was brought to pause and reflect on the words the writer had just written.
Then all of a sudden everything became rushed! The dialogue the setting the character changes many times I didn’t even know who was speaking! Terrible and frustrating! I loved the Kite Runner and A thousand splendid Suns, both deserving of five star review. This book I’ve only given one star it just left me feeling so frustrated.

I came across this book after having read the author's first two. The second was better than the first, and this one was better than the previous one. The characters have such depth and rich backgrounds. They compliment the main storyline and make for a beautiful woven piece of art. This is by far the best book I've read in a long while.
