Description

After traveling the globe and speaking to thousands of churches worldwide, Paul David Tripp has discovered a serious problem within pastoral culture.

He is not only concerned about the spiritual life of the pastor, but also with the very community of people that trains him, calls him, relates to him, and restores him if necessary.

Dangerous Calling reveals the truth that the culture surrounding our pastors is spiritually unhealthy—an environment that actively undermines the wellbeing and efficacy of our church leaders and thus the entire church body.

Here is a book that both diagnoses and offers cures for issues that impact every member and church leader, and gives solid strategies for fighting the all-important war that rages in our churches today.

Dangerous Calling Paul David Tripp Book Summary: After traveling the globe and speaking to thousands of churches worldwide, Paul David Tripp has discovered a serious problem within pastoral culture. Dangerous Calling reveals the truth that the culture surrounding our pastors is spiritually unhealthy—an environment that actively undermines the well-being and effectiveness of our church leaders and thus the entire church body. Here is a book that both diagnoses and offers cures for issues that impact every member and church leader, and gives solid strategies for fighting the all-important war that rages in our churches today. Review: Fantastic Book!!!! What a personal testimony, and a very relevant topic for today. Sadly I had to agree with many of his views. I think that never before has someone on the inside of the pastorate admitted that something is radically going wrong with our churches and it starts many times from the man in the pulpit or the leadership. I heard for years it is not the people in the pews that are destroying the church, it is the leadership. It also seemed so sad that pastors feel like they can not be real with the very people who are wishing them the most success. His stories that add depth to the call for pastors to become vulnerable and authentic with the leadership and congregants. I found this book to be more for every church goer so that everyone in the church can help those in need. Because being authentic with people in the church is the hardest thing to do, most people do not really know how to come alongside others and bare one another’s burdens. I would like to thank Net Galley and Crossway for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone. This book has challenged, rebuked, comforted, inspired, whipped and taught me all at the same time. I can't count how many times I said "ouch" reading this book. Paul Tripp is truly a pastor for pastors and his candor, wisdom and transparency have all reminded me of God's goodness and the fact that I'm not alone. I'm a better man after reading this because I no longer need to hide my weaknesses or be scared of my shortcomings. This is a must read for all desiring leadership in any ministry capacity and all of our elder candidates must read it. Great read and you won't be disappointed.

Found this book to be both challenging and helpful. As a lead pastor this book gives a lot of insight into the struggle inside of a leader's heart. Several of his applications came across more like a rule than a tool, but i think you can use discretion to determine your application to his thoughts. Read with an open heart and an open mind and I think you will be stretched!
