Description

It is my intent that this book will provide helpful information to athletes, coaches, trainers, health professionals, students, and all others with a personal interest in the subject of sports medicine. When people hear the term sports medicine, the most common association is that of injury related to sports, and what care is given to an injured athlete.

But the field of sports medicine is much broader in terms of information that athletes at all levels and all ages should have to enhance their enjoyment, safety, and performance in athletics.

The book will cover many additional topics: exercise physiology, fitness testing, exercise and health, nutrition, drug use in athletics, women’s issues in sports medicine, and environmental exposure to heat, sun, and altitude.

The book will introduce you to the most common sports injuries to help the reader understand how medical professionals diagnose and treat such injuries, but it is not intended in any way to substitute for good medical care. Quite simply, if you get hurt in sports and have significant pain or limitation of your exercise or daily activities, you should seek help from your doctor.

The book may be used as a stand-alone reader or in conjunction with courses taught in high schools and colleges.

I took prof. Mclaughlin's Sports medicine course. Not only did the class teach me a lot, but the textbook alone was so beneficial to understanding sports medicine. It is one of the few textbooks I decided to keep reading after I have already finished the class.

This book serves as an excellent guide for any person who is active, concerned about their health, or wants to know a little more about how medicine and staying physically active go hand in hand. As a very physically active person myself, and as a student interested in the medical field, this book has given me a much more integrated foundation of knowledge in the subject of Sports Medicine. The book is very well written, and provides details and explanations about how the body works ands responds to injury, diet habits, and overall healthy life styles. This is a very worthy purchase, and I know I will be able to use it again and again as a reference throughout my career, and as I continue to study Sports Medicine.

I can frankly say that this is a very informative book on sports medicine. It is divided in several sections, mostly different body parts. For example there is one part about the knee, covering its anatomy, function and a variety of injuries that it can sustain. Also advice is given on what causes the injury, proper diagnosis and treatment. In general, this is an excellent summation of many different sports medicine topics and I can fully recommend this book to anyone who is interestend in this particular field!

It gives an overview of common injuries and the best treatments for them, as well as just general sport and health related information. The diagrams and charts also give you the information in a way that is easy to understand even if you're not a professional. If you're interested in sports medicine, or have an athlete in the family (or are an athlete) I would definitely recommend this book!
