This is one of the best firearms books I’ve read. Kudos to Michael Martin for a very informative, well-written, easy to understand, and comprehend iBook. Not only does it do an excellent job of covering the topics of concealment and home defense it does a great job of describing the physiological and legal aspects of carrying and dealing with an encounter, firearms fundamentals, training tips, types of firearms, gadgets, advanced skills development, and more. I’d definitely recommend Concealed Carry and Home Defense for both newbies and seasoned firearms owners because of the breadth and depth of material, its thought-provoking discussions, interactive topics, and exercises at the end of each chapter to see how well you’ve retained the information.

This is such a great book, that really gives you the fundamentals of concealed carry. Even if you don't conceal carry, every person who owns a firearm should have this book.

When I decided to purchase my first firearm, I downloaded this iBook. Reviewed it extensively. Mr. Martin explains in simple terms the use, care, and safety of firearms. Now I am confident that when I purchase my first firearm (revolver), I will have at least the basic knowledge to be safe. Thanks, Michael! Warning: At nearly 950 mb, it really eats up your data allowance if you're on an internet service plan.

This review is about the printed book and the app version. Both are first rate publications using high end production values. There is nothing amateur about either of them. First, iTunes lists other books by "Michael Martin." Their software just made a mistake because those authors have the same name. The author of this book app does not dabble. He knows the subject matter and is expert in putting it together in text and graphics in the printed book. Additionally, the book app has videos and interactive widgets. I have been acquainted with the Michael Martin who wrote this book and developed the app for years. I first recommended his initial release of the printed book to a national audience. The interesting thing is that the first edition was for the residents of Minnesota who were going to be applying for their concealed carry permit. The book was so good that I told a hundred thousand people to buy it and just skip over the part where it talked about Minnesota law if they were not from Minnesota. I told them that the price of the book was more than worth it, even though it was originally written for Minnesota residents. Then came the national release of the book, and I recommended it again. There was no other book on the market like it. I labeled it "The textbook for concealed carry," and now I see so many others applying the same label to the book. The app version of the book is just incredible. I tried it on an iPad 2. The graphics, videos and text are incredible. I hear it looks even better using the new iPad. The interactive widgets grabbed and held my interest. The ability to click on links in the text and be taken directly to websites for more information is great. Most of the pages that have a photo actually have a gallery of photos. Just flip through them like you are flipping pages. The interactive widgets are packed with information. I have the printed book, and I tried the app. I really like having hard copy books, but this app is the first electronic version of a book that has me actually preferring it over a hard copy. First time! I have written two professional reviews of this product for a mass audience. The third article I am writing about it will go out to an audience of a quarter million subscribers of an email newsletter I write for. I will be recommending this book app to all of them. I never asked Michael if he had a return policy on his products. It never occurred to me. The reason is that I do not see how anyone could be disappointed in his products offered through his company called Key House Press. It is not like you can go out and find something that teaches the material better. The printed book or the book app should be required reading in every state that issues concealed carry permits. Instructors looking to get a book to teach a concealed carry course from need not look any further than the printed version of Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals by Michael Martin. If you use tablet PCs in your class, use the app version. If you are an instructor, Mr. Martin has supplemental teaching tools to use in a classroom. This is the book I recommend and have given away to those interested in learning more about concealed carry. Gun shop owners should sell it. Copies would fly off the shelves. The book is so good that a version of it is available in every gander Mountain store nationwide! With the app only being $8.99 as of this writing, you cannot go wrong. That is about one third the full retail price of the printed book, and the printed book obviously does not have interactive widgets or videos. Cody S. Alderson
  • Great for Novice to Expert

I just finished the book. It provided a great introduction to firearms with tons of tips for the novice shooter. I appreciate that the book provided a solid overview of the different types of actions, without burdening the new shooter with too much detail. Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals also outlined several drills that can be easily scaled from novice to expert skill levels, and produced resources for further skill development. One key aspect of the book is guidelines for incident response, from threat scanning and attempted avoidance, responding with force appropriate to the threat, and contacting 911 quickly with the basic information. I think that the photos and interactive diagrams are very useful, especially for people new to firearms, and was amused by the Cheer's reference. This book presented explanations for different pieces of gear that a person should consider for their SD/HD preparations, as well as examples on how to properly use it. I recommend this book to new and experienced shooters alike.
