Description

The Inside Story of America's Ultimate Warriors

When Osama bin Laden was assassinated, the entire world was fascinated by the men who had completed the seemingly impossible mission that had dogged the U.S. government for over a decade. SEAL Team 6 became synonymous with heroism, duty, and justice. Only a handful of the elite men who make up the SEALs, the US Navy's best and bravest, survive the legendary and grueling selection process that leads to becoming a member of Team 6, a group so classified it technically does not even exist. There are no better warriors on Earth.

Don Mann knows what it takes to be a brother in this ultra-selective fraternity. As a member of Seal Team Six for over eight years and a SEAL for over seventeen years, he worked in countless covert operations, operating from land, sea, and air, and facing shootings, decapitations, and stabbings. He was captured by the enemy and lived to tell the tale, and he participated in highly classified missions all over the globe, including Somalia, Panama, El Salvador, Colombia, Afghanistan, and Iraq. As a coordinator for several civilian SEAL training programs, and as a former Training Officer of SEAL Team Six, he was directly responsible for shaping the bodies and minds of SEALs who carried out the assassination of Osama bin Laden.

But to become a SEAL, Mann had to overcome his own troubled childhood and push his body to its breaking point -- and beyond. Inside Seal Team 6 is a high octane narrative of physical and mental toughness, giving unprecedented insight to the inner workings of the training and secret missions of the world's most respected and feared combat unit.

  • Should have read the reviews!

After reading American Sniper, No Easy Day and Lone Survivor, this book doesn't even come close to these. Being an active duty service member, I totally respect what these Warriors do, I just wouldn't recommend this book. God Bless The USA!
  • My own fault

I didn't download the sample or read the reviews of this book before buying it - so it's my fault that I was unaware of the heavy redaction (sometimes leaving less than a paragraph on a page. That said - it's very frustrating to try to read. It's not an expensive book, which should have been a clue. It's got some interesting info - but ultimately should be skipped in favor of No Easy Day or similar.

There were way too many blacked out portions of the book. I didn't pay to have a part of a book.
  • What an athlete!

My expectations were way off. Story is more of a guy training for adventure races. Stories of anything remotely to do with the teams plainly sucked. Stick writing about triathlons and leave the other lack luster stuff alone.

This book has so much blanked out sections that I felt cheated. I did not pay full price to receive a heavily edited version of the book. I respect the author for his valuable sacrifices for our country and mean no disrespect to him.

I don’t generally write reviews but after reading this book I decided I had to. While the book’s title is not totally misleading, the book itself is lacking. To be fair, Mann has had an incredible life and there are some interesting facts in this book. I salute him and all SEALs for their service. Unfortunately, the facts pertaining to ST-6 are limiting. How much could there be about a secret organization that no one acknowledges existence of? There is not much here to learn if you haven’t read Marcinko, Chalker, Wasdin or any of Couch’s books. There is heavy redaction in this book and I found myself frustrated by it, especially for an ebook at this price. The book should have been modified to tell the story better. Simply leaving a ton of black pages in the book does not impress anyone who’s paid for an autobiography. Note to the publisher: chances are, if you’ve been in ST-6, it goes without saying that you’ve encountered some top secret stuff. No need to waste the ink on the pages trying to prove it. However, you learn much about Mann’s escapades outside of ST-6, even while he was at 6. That part is interesting and Mann appears to be an exceptional athlete. However, if you are looking for some major insights into ST-6, missions and other tidbits, you’ll be disappointed.
  • A SEALs biography

Don't expect to get the nitty gritty details on training and operation of SEAL Team Shhh. It would be just as compromising to put them in a book as it would to document them on a news broadcast. Still a great read for those who are intrigued by anything having to do with Americas elite warriors. Hoo-yah.
  • Read the note at the beginning!!!

This is an intriguing look at what ST-6 is all about. Yes, there are redactions...but if you look at the note to the readers that is in BOTH the sample AND full book you will see the reasoning for that. The author and publisher had no control over that. I respect the author's choice to leave those redactions in there to show that there was more he wanted to include but couldn't. I just don't see why people are bashing the book so bad when there was a clear warning of the redactions and you could see them in the sample before buying!!!
