Coming Out, Then Coming Home

Christopher Yuan, the son of Chinese immigrants, discovered at an early age that he was different. He was attracted to other boys. As he grew into adulthood, his mother, Angela, hoped to control the situation. Instead, she found that her son and her life were spiraling out of control—and her own personal demons were determined to defeat her.

Years of heartbreak, confusion, and prayer followed before the Yuans found a place of complete surrender, which is God’s desire for all families. Their amazing story, told from the perspectives of both mother and son, offers hope for anyone affected by homosexuality.

God calls all who are lost to come home to him. Casting a compelling vision for holy sexuality, Out of a Far Country speaks to prodigals, parents of prodigals, and those wanting to minister to the gay community.

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.”  - Luke 15:20

Includes a discussion guide for personal reflection and group use.

  • So blessed after reading this

I find myself surprised by God's grace and faithfulness after reading this book, yet I shouldn't be surprised at all. This is how he works. Redeeming broken men and women and then using them to reach others. This book is real and honest. And you will find yourself leaning more fully into the promises of God. Because He who began a good work will be faithful to complete it!
  • Life-changing!

This book is a must-read for everyone. It shares the powerful life stories of people who have painful pasts, made wrong choices, and how God's grace is sufficient to cover them both and transform lives. You won't be able to put this book down, and it may even change your life. And if you are looking for a book that will help you see how Christians should deal with the issue of homosexuality, you will find it hear as you see how a faithful mother did just that.

This book unfolds a remarkable, true story of how God can change lives no matter how dark they appear. This book will capture your mind and pull you into an amazing reality that God still changes lives.
  • Broke My Heart

This book was so heartbreaking for what Christopher's parents had to go through, but even more so is the greater revelation of the homosexual community and how they relate to each other. The drug abuse, the seemly out of control sexual activity and even contracting AIDS as some sort of badge to wear. I felt extreme sadness in knowing this activity is practiced. There is this "driving" force towards self destruction that no one seems to be able to control and yet we all follow that path until Christ comes to rescue us from ourselves. This book shows human suffering and pain, but also hope and redemption, which is truly the most important message. I cried throughout the whole book and appreciated Christopher and his mother's honesty in sharing their story.
