My Sweet Audrina

It was good. The ending had a twist and was shocking. Flowers in the attic is my favorite V.C.Andrews book, but My Sweet Audrina is the one that got me hooked on her style of writing.

I purchased this book to read for a book club of sorts, and while I wasn't expecting fireworks, I thought it would be some fun light reading. But it was just bad, plain and simple, to the point that I could not enjoy it. Normally, I don't mind when books are slow starters if the payoff is worth it, or if the reason it’s slow makes sense (like the immense setting-up of the universe in the first A Song of Ice and Fire book, for instance). But this book could honestly have been at least a third shorter than it was. It just drags and drags forever at several places, but particularly the beginning. It just felt like the writer was either writing herself into it without any sort of planning, or that she didn’t know what was going to end up happening, either. The dialogue was also terrible. It did not at all sound how people naturally talk and felt so forced. The author additionally committed the sin of exposition in dialogue countless times—seriously, why have the character say what's happening when you can just show the reader through plot action? It just implies you either think your readers are too dumb to pick up what’s going on without you telling them, or that you're a weak writer, or both. I also found the motivations of the characters neither believable nor consistent. Often I found myself saying, “But what reason would they have to do that?” Or, “That doesn’t even make sense in terms of who this character is, according to the author.” They were all so flat when they could have been complex and round (potential was definitely there). As a result, I did not come away having a real sense of who they were, nor did I care about them, and I certainly don't care enough to read the second installment to see what happens to these characters. In general, just really weak and lazy writing, almost like you would see from an amateur creative writing student in high school. All these issues combined took me well out of the realm where I could suspend my disbelief and just left me indignant.

This book was amazing and very interesting. There were twists and turns in every chapter. I could not put this book down. I was so disappointed to find that there was not a series to this intriguing story. I could read this over and over again. This book is by far my all time fave.

One of the best story lines I've ever read. A MUST read !
