Description

The phenomenal New York Times bestseller Shooter captures a professional sniper's life, both on the battlefield--where he has racked up more than 60 confirmed kills--and off.

Jack Coughlin is the Marine Corps' top-ranked sniper, the man who personally brings America's military muscle to the enemy's front door. In twenty years of active service, he has accumulated one of the most impressive records in the Corps, ranging through many of the world's hot spots. During Operation Iraqi Freedom alone, he recorded at least thirty-six kills, thirteen of them in a single twenty-four-hour period.

In Shooter, Coughlin has written a highly personal story about his deadly craft, taking readers deep inside an invisible society that is off-limits to outsiders. This is not a heroic battlefield memoir, but the careful study of an exceptional man as he carries forward one of the deadliest legacies in the U.S. military.

This book moved me. I have read a lot of sniper novels. but not one has ever made me feel proud and thankful after finishing. This man poured his heart and soul into this book. Unlike other books not once did he come off as arrogant or better than anyone else. There were times while reading it I wish I could stop and shake his hand for what he did for this country and for that I say THANK YOU .

If you are a fan of his other books then you will enjoy this one too. It is an autobiography of the start of the Iraq war in 2001 through the eyes of Jack and his role as a sniper in the army. I look forward to reading his newest book and completing the whole collection. If you want a good read, stick with this author.
  • Great Read....

I picked this up after reading Seal Team Six and honestly it was very similar. The both provide a glimpse into the human spirit and the sacrifices our soldiers and guardians of freedoms endure. Although the author shares some very personal items about his failed marriage with his wife and as much as we may want to assign blame, we must remember that it was a relationship built within very hard conditions. Aside from that part of the story, we see the separation between the caring human and the man that has a serious mission to focus and accomplish. After reading this I have a further increased sense of respect for these soldiers and their struggle to maintain stability and sanity in an unstable insane world. Thank you to all our service men and women past and present.

This book is not a story.. It is the real thing, I felt as if I was a imbedded reporter seeing the war unfold from a grunts point of view. Coughing has found something, he is as good an author as he is a sniper . Period

This story is the inside thoughts of a true MARINE SNIPER. He doesn't brag but talks about his inner thoughts and feeling. There are not many that would have the BALLS to tell the truth about killing and how the dreams of the enemy don't go away. He still hopes they will but they won't. He will learn to live with it. I hope he puts the kind of dedication into raising those children. Unfortunately they will grow up and leave. He will then need to dedicate himself to something new, because once they have moved on his life will change like it did when he made the change from a combat solider to a garrison troop. I have spent 20 years of my life helping vets come home.
