Try reading it on paper. I personally love anything Renko, even trash like three stations. Of course the only Renko books worth their weight in print are the first two. I actually read Polar Star before I read Gorky Park, just the order I found them in. Give Smith a break. Wolves...Dogs is great, but I lost intrest in stalins ghost. If what you seek is an exceptional Renko-like extension, read "Rose."

Big disappointment, especially after Polar Star, Havana Bay, and most especially after Gorky Park.

With an enviable list of very readable books to his credit, Smith finally rolled craps on Three Stations. The book, and Arkady Renko, roll along quite nicely until the last few chapters; at which point Smith seems to have grown weary of his tale. He elides toward the conclusion with such sparseness the reader may not even be aware the end has been reached. I felt that Smith must have mistakenly inserted his outline pages for his finished chapters. Not his best work.

Not the greatest of his work--he has some top 100 all time books like December 6--but this book is good enough to beat most books released this year.

Not his best but better after the first half. Worth the read give it time.

A disappointment. Choppy and disjointed and lacks the natural flow that Smith's previous Moscow based books had. The character's are particularly dreary and situations are contrived and people lack sufficient motivation for their behavior. The story ends abruptly as if several chapters were left out to explain how events got to where they were. Maybe Mr. Smith dashed this book off in a hurry to make some quick money and lacked the interest to fill out the story. It reads more like short sketches then a fully developed novel.

This was ok. Not his most inspired work. Scott
