Description

“Bad Monkeys has wit and imagination by the bucketload. . . . Buy it, read it, memorize then destroy it. There are eyes everywhere.”

—Chris Moore, bestselling author of A Dirty Job and Lamb

Jane Charlotte has been arrested for murder. She tells police that she is a member of a secret organization devoted to fighting evil; her division is called the Department for the Final Disposition of Irredeemable Persons—“Bad Monkeys” for short. This confession earns Jane a trip to the jail’s psychiatric wing, where a doctor attempts to determine whether she is lying, crazy, or playing a different game altogether.

Clever and gripping, full of unexpected twists and turns, teasing existential musings, and captivating prose, Bad Monkeys unfolds at lightning speed, taking readers to another realm of imagination.

Good quick read. Gets a little convoluted near the end wrapping up but otherwise pretty good. Worth it for the price.

I read it. The plot moved quickly and kept me turning the pages. I made a prediction early on that kept me engaged and wanting to reading more. However, when my prediction proved to wrong, I felt all alone and disappointed. From the climax, it all unraveled too quickly for me. Despite this, it has all the elements of a good story and it kept me engaged. The author just chose a different path for the story than I anticipated and for me that was anti-climatic. Especially, when he did an awesome job (whether it was intentional or not) of referencing the religious concept of the constant unseen battle of good vs. evil forces, sacrifice and atonement. Why reference and discuss crimes and unfortunate events that happen only to young males if it has nothing to do with climax or the resolution? Anyway, you should read it, if you have time.

Think I'll stick to real whodunnits that take place in the real world. Guess you get what you pay for, after all.

I am not a vigorous reader, so I should say right off that Bad Monkeys kept me engaged from the first page to the last. It is well written, interesting and a quick and fun read. It grabbed me right away and kept me fixated through the first two thirds. The storyline was great and the stage setting was a lot of fun. If I have one complaint, it would be that the story went from a really interesting "is she crazy, is she not" story to combination Matrix and Star Trek in the lat third. It felt somewhat like a completely different story, although still pretty interesting. In the end, I would definitely recommend reading it and still give it a rating of 4 stars.

Not the usual kind of book that I read but read some of the reviews and gave it a shot.

A fun book to spend the day with on the couch with a cup of coffee and a blanket. Reminded me of a dark "Men in Black" without aliens.... If that makes any sense. Loved the details in the levels of organization but the character development did leave me a little cold. Overall fun and entertaining.
