The Heart Principle

It is rare to see how other Asians perceive Chinese American in a novel. That is one thing I like about this book. Although some of the detail is a bit off. Like the history of contemporary China and difference in Chinese from various region. The relationship between Vietnam and China are complicate. Such complexity is reflected in the book like how Anna’s family doesn’t prefer a Vietnamese boyfriend. Even though he possess radiant smile and god figure. The part about how Anna tired of caring aging parents is relatable to me as well.

This book follows the same theme as her previous two books. I loved reading this from the first person perspective. The second half of the book felt like I was reading non-fiction. She was very truthful in her experiences and I appreciate her letting us see that side of her life through this book. I can’t wait for the next one!

Just like love quotient this was beautifully written and it gives a whole community recognition. It creates room for understanding that people haven’t been exposed to before ( especially if they haven’t tried) . I’m so thankful for writers who write what they want.

From the moment I started this book I couldn’t put it down! As the mother of an austistic daughter, it was wonderful to be able to step inside Anna’s world and has helped me to gain some perspective on my daughter’s life. Thank you so much for writing this book and I can’t wait for the next one!

This book is exactly what I needed. It’s honest, heartbreaking, and beautifully redemptive.

I have been a fan of Helen’s books since The Kiss Quotient. It has been an amazing ride to read each of these gorgeous men’s tales of romance. Since his first appearance in the series, I have fallen for Quan’s charm, kindness, and warmth. His love for his brother, cousin, and family is unparalleled. I have always believed that a man’s relationship with his family says a lot about his love language. Thus, Quan has been five stars in my book since day one. Now, onto the book— this novel, this story, this tale of romance…. it gave me everything I wanted and hoped for. I pre-ordered it the moment that I saw it in the Book Store. Everything that unfolded from chapter one was remarkable and cemented my love for Quan even more. Surprisingly, I fell in love with Anna along the way, too. I related to her in a way that felt personal. At some point, it felt like I was reading about myself. Her trials and tribulations from her career to her relationship with her mother and sister— it felt so familiar and I had to set the book down to self-reflect multiple times. I understood her and wished her to be loved more than anything else. It was so beautiful and poetic that I’m still thinking about it months after finishing it. I’m sure I will carry it in my heart for a long time. As a Vietnamese woman, I am proud of Helen for showcasing our culture in such a wonderful light. She portrayed these young Vietnamese men with humor, (huge) sex appeal, and a depth of sensitivity that demands respect and adoration. I am thankful for her novels and I’m looking forward to more of her work (which just keeps getting better, my goodness)!

This book is raw and lovely and real. Anna is a character I’ve never seen before in a book by seen in myself and women around me for my whole life. Thank you.
