Description

Viscount Rohan is a very bad man. Leader of the notorious Heavenly Host, he steers the dissolute and pleasure-seeking aristocracy in their revels. Content in his wickedness, he knows there is no room for a starchy, brave English spinster in his self-indulgent existence, but his body disagrees.

Elinor Harriman is so intent on protecting her baby sister and their dying mother that she doesn’t realize the danger she’s in. The notorious Viscount Rohan could have no interest in someone like her, thank God, and no idea that she melts with longing every time he touches her. She’s an intelligent, plain woman, and his tempting, his teasing has to be some kind of joke.

But Rohan takes his appetites very seriously, and sensible or not, he wants Elinor Harriman in his bed. There is only one problem with indulging himself–he’s starting to want her in his life as well. And that would destroy everything.

It was a good romance but the male protagonist could hardly be called that. He was pretty awful to the point you wonder why Elinor liked him. There’s no real moment of redemption for him either. It’s kinda just “I’m a rapist and cheat but you’ll deal.” Which was odd. They end the book just as oddly, no real ending. It feels like there could’ve been 6 chapters taken out and added at least 2 to finish it nicely. I enjoyed it when I didn’t try to think and when I skipped the drivel.

Haven’t read an historical romance in awhile and I enjoyed the change. One reviewer called it dark and disturbing, yet I haven’t found many modern romances that wasn’t filled with explicit bedroom scenes and foul language these days. This story held my interest, the characters were written well, and there was an HEA.

I loved this book. It had the story, the mystery, the romance, and the bit of darkness wrapped up in a perfect package. I can’t wait to read more from this author
