In all honesty—this might be my favorite Star Wars canon novel at the moment. A lot of new Star Wars novels, in my opinion, lack a strong plot. They seem to be supportive of other mediums of Star Wars story telling (the games, movies, and TV shows) rather than supporting their own plot. However, this book is not supportive material—it’s standalone. And it’s amazing. I’ve gotta say, Inferno Squad was not incredibly compelling in BF2 for me. I enjoyed it, but it definitely lacked the depth of some of the other imperial stories at the time. This book, on the other hand, offers incredible insight into these characters. Iden is a compelling leader with both morality and a strong desire to accomplish her goal. Hask serves as a strong juxtaposition to her morality. Seyn was a wonderful addition—I loved her kindness and doubt. Meeko was likeable and his affection for Iden was subtle but supportive. The Imperial perspective after Luke Skywalker “massacred” a million people on the Death Star was also incredibly insightful. [SPOILERS] I need to praise Golden for her twists in this novel. She sets up an incredible change of heart for Iden at the end. Also if you have “daddy issues” read this book. You’ll relate to Iden plenty. Iden’s issues with her father are apparent both in the game and right away in this novel. He is cold with Iden, only sees her as an imperial tool, and drives her away from her mother. Despite this, Iden loves her father even after he puts her in a direct position to hurt her mother deeply all in the Empire’s name. NOW! Here’s where I have to give Golden immense praise because the ending is GOLDEN. I LOVE and I mean I LOVE her usage of Lux Bonteri in this novel. I think a majority of the Star Wars fandom forgets how much influence Padmé had on Lux. Of course he would join the Rebellion and give dramatic speeches about hope! I love her characterization of him here. The last time Lux appeared was when he was maybe 18 or 19, so now the audience can meet a more mature version of him. Anyway, the reason why I love the ending is because Lux offers a juxtaposition to Iden’s father. Lux is incredibly kind and gentle to Iden and teaches her all she knows even when she plans to betray him. Lux also loves his step-daughter to the point where even know they’re on opposing sides of a war, he would never betray her safety. Iden realizes that this is something her father would NEVER do for her and it sets a spark that maybe the Empire is driving her family apart. Anyway, Lux’s ending monologue at the end is HILARIOUS. This man goes on a twenty minute exposition dump of a speech and Iden let’s him do it because frankly it IS a compelling story. Normally, I hate exposition dumps—but this one served a purpose. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL story telling in this scene. I’m begging y’all to read this book just for this ONE scene it’s so GOOD.

It is great to see the perspective of an imperial soldier. Them infiltrating the rebel base and having their morality question was amazing. One of the members of inferno squad failed and died but the rest showed their loyalty to the empire. This is a really great book

This book is really good! I really enjoyed it! I kind of wish it would end differently but the rest of the book was good! I know the inferno squad is the best of the best but they still do too amazingly impossible things! They destroy tons of enemies easily, steal spaceships singlehandedly from entire rebel bases, and manage to join a group of rebels without anyone suspecting them! This was a good book though! If you’ve played the battlefront II campaign or are going to play it, you should definitely read this book!

This book works fine as an introduction to espionage thrillers. Unfortunately I just didn’t feel like this was happening in Star Wars, and I left the book enjoying it, but not having an urge to reread it since. If you want some of Inferno Squad’s backstory, it does well. Despite that, don’t get excited for the climax.

This EA Star Wars Battlefront 2 tie-in novel is way better than the actually game it's suppose to advertise. It does a great job of letting out see things from the Empire's point of view, why would someone willingly join a faction with obviously evil leaders like The Emperor or Darth Vader. It fleshes out the character just enough that you start to relate to them all, while keeping the action flowing and entertaining. If you're a SW fan, I'd honestly say skip the game and pick up the novel instead.

It’s an awesome thrilling book that ties into the battlefront 2 campaign.
