Ian Mackintosh and Rose McLaren meet in unsettled times of clan wars and shady alliances. With daily life filled with uncertainty for the McLaren clan, Rose wasn’t expecting the interest of Ian or any other suitor for that matter. Eventually Ian and Rose wed, but must now set out to restore the lands that Rose and her best friend Aggie once called home. With Ian as the new clan leader, much is happening. Unexpected news for the couple, a raid on their keep, a kidnapping and a betrayal that leaves the entire clan reeling is enough to kill the spirit. However, Ian has vowed to set things right and get what is rightfully his no matter the cost. This was a good read. Lots of action, unexpected alliances and an opposing clan leader who is so stuck in his ways that it might be the death of his entire clan make this an engrossing story that you will not want to put down until the very end. First in a series set in the Highlands of Scotland.

This is a good story, but I had not read the preceding book. There were many references in the beginning to people & places I didn’t understand. As the book went along these made more sense. I would still recommend reading the series in order to prevent confusion.

Ian’s Rose is a beautiful Highland love story. It is a fast-paced story that will make you laugh, cry, and fume. As soon as we are reminded of the circumstances that brought our hero and heroine together, Ian declares he is unworthy of Rose and breaks their betrothal. What follows is a march to the altar that will have you laughing all the way. A day after their wedding, Ian agrees to become the Chief of the McLaren clan. Although these lands are Aggie’s through her mother, and she and Frederick had planned to rebuild them, they have decided to go to the lands hers through her newly discovered true father, Douglas Carruthers. Ian and Rose will rebuild the McLaren clan, the keep, and the lands as a legacy for Ailrig, Aggie’s son. The journey and the rebuilding project are hard, rewarding work. Despite some setbacks, everything seems to be coming along. But, evil is afoot. All hell breaks out when a neighboring clan chief has the keep attacked and Rose kidnapped. Who has her? Why was she taken? How will Ian get her back? This is a cleverly written book with a strong hero and heroine, great secondary characters (I really liked Brogan and Leona), a vile villain, and a surprise rescuer(s). Don’t miss this one. You will love it!
