Description

Leeds in West Yorkshire is one northern England’s largest cities. The city rose to prominence in the 19th century as a major hub of manufacturing and commerce. Its importance during the Industrial Revolution brought jobs, people, and construction to Yorkshire, some of which exists today which gives the city great architectural character. Two hundred miles to the northeast of London is the medieval, walled city of York. The ancient city is located amidst the beautiful green moors and wolds of the North Yorkshire countryside. Encircled by its 13th century walls and its stunning Minster, York still retains its historical charm and heritage. In 2007, York was named the European Tourist City of the Year by European Cities Marketing. New York was named after York when the Duke of York named it in 1664.
