Description

“If you like psychological detective stories with a touch of humour and romance, you will love Sam Smith.”

It had been a week since the incident at the abandoned quarry, a week since I’d shot and killed someone, a week since my ex-husband had been murdered. It had been an emotional week. But life goes on. I’d been hired to discover who was sending death threats to Dr Ruth Carey, a controversial psychiatrist. The trail led to two high-powered villains and soon the death threats were aimed at me, threats that increased following two murders.

Meanwhile, after years of domestic violence, I was trying to make sense of my private life. Dr Alan Storey, a prominent psychologist, claimed that he loved me, and I was strongly attracted to him. But the years of domestic abuse had scarred me emotionally and I was reluctant to commit to a relationship.

Love and Bullets is the story of a dramatic week in my life, a week of soul-searching, self-discovery and redemption.

A good read. Sam is very transparent about her problems which is relatable for a lot of people.the story was interesting and intriguing with many different types of people that Sam encountered. Ruth and her foundation was familiar to me as I was aware of this disturbing trend to eliminate undesirables to create a master race.

In this Sam Smith novel, private detective Sam takes on a case to protect a woman who believes in eugenics, creating a superior race through genetics. Although the woman's ideology repulses Sam, she does her best to do what she was hired to do. The author does a wonderful job of tying the social issue of eugenics with Sam's own feelings of inferiority about herself. Having been abused physically and mentally her entire life, Sam doubts her own self worth. She has to work through these issues to keep the love of a man who adores her. Although not written specifically about Sam, a line in the book beautifully sums up the essence of the psychological aspect of the book. "She had cried the rain, but there was still plenty of sunshine in her life and that sunshine would produce a rainbow."
