Description

Wildly original, funny and moving, The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August is an extraordinary story of a life lived again and again from World Fantasy Award-winning author Claire North.

Harry August is on his deathbed. Again.

No matter what he does or the decisions he makes, when death comes, Harry always returns to where he began, a child with all the knowledge of a life he has already lived a dozen times before. Nothing ever changes.

Until now.

As Harry nears the end of his eleventh life, a little girl appears at his bedside. "I nearly missed you, Doctor August," she says. "I need to send a message."

This is the story of what Harry does next, and what he did before, and how he tries to save a past he cannot change and a future he cannot allow.

What a great read, I listened to the audio version and it was thrilling. It was interesting thinking about all the different ways one could relive their lives in different ways.

I love a good story. I love a unique story. This book was such a complex read with a plot that I just haven't experienced before. I couldn't stop reading and the last chapter left me gasping for breath. I fell in love with the characters, felt their pain, joy, anger and conflicting emotions. Well done, amazing book.

Wish I would have read a few pages before buying this book. I love the concept, but the execution is horrible. Written like it's being told by a fifth grader who should be taking ADHD medication.

It's Jonathan Strange meets Interview with the Vampire, as written by Graham Green. But of course, it's none of those things. It's fresh twists on old tropes. Immortality, secret ancient societies, temporal paradoxes, hidden truths. I loved it, and the characters and world North creates. She writes series fiction under another name, and half of me hopes for more tales of the Cronos Club. The other half hopes this world is left alone, just a single volume, because it feels near perfect and unlikely to be improved upon.

Amazing book. The characters brought full circle, from birth to every death. Well written, though you must really pay attention to time changes, easy to follow. I look forward to more!
