NO ONE IS SAFE FROM THE SERIAL KILLER

NOT EVEN SCARPETTA…

During the early hours of Christmas morning, chief medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta receives a chilling call. The Phantom Slasher has struck again.

The serial killer has terrorized Northern Virginia for months. His pattern is to stalk with a sophisticated technology that enables him to invade his victims' homes and watch their every move. They wake up to a ghost-like hologram before being murdered in their beds.

Scarpetta is summoned to Mercy Island, the site of a notorious psychiatric hospital where two people have been brutalized, one of them from Scarpetta’s past. It soon becomes apparent that she could be next…

Started out good. Then went down hill. Ended stupid.
  • Not her best

Too much unbelievable tech and not enough story. Ending too abrupt. For a writer who usually surrounds her fiction with reality, she lost her way with this tale.

It was a great read until the last chapter. It read like PC got tired of writing and just wanted the book finished . The ending was abrupt and not as nuanced or finessed as we’ve come to expect.
  • Another hit

Cornwall never fails to entrance a reader. She was recommended to me years ago by a medical examiner. She said her descriptions of procedures was spot on.

90% of the book is yet another rehash of the twisted…poor pitiful us Scarpetta gang and all their personal trauma/drama. Another “ruined attempted vacation” for the bedraggled Scarpetta and Benton. And as always ad nauseam dragged out over stated descriptions of local scenery, historical sites and “Southern Living” home and hearth descriptions of homes that are murder sites. If you buy…read the first chapter…then skip to the last…you won’t miss a hing.
