Very well-told story about an American teen who ends up at the pointy end of the spear in the Vietnam war. The author very vividly describes real combat, real human events, and more mportantly, the real emotions, of a young American whose life is changed forever by his combat experiences.
If you didn’t live in those times, you likely don’t understand what that war did to so many Americans, and to an entire generation of Americans. This book can help bridge that gap and add to your understanding of that war and what it did to so many Americans.

I’ve read many books about the wars in Southeast Asia. This ranks among the best.
Unfortunately, I’ve already forgotten how to spell the author’s name. But I know it. And it’s not really about him anyway. It’s about his brothers in arms, an unappreciated lot, whose valor, whose courage in those jungles, was magnificent.
Five stars.
