Already Dead But Still...

I've been a fan of Huston since stumbling on to his Henry Thompson trilogy. I loved it for the action and not necessarily the plot twists and literary intricacies. Simply put, I considered Huston to be a fastfood novelist offering a quick fix for bored readers.
But Already Dead is the best of both art forms. The first being the need-for-speed, plot-driven writing, that action junkies crave; the second being the character development and surprise twists that literary buffs demand.
Joe Pitt is a complex character with needs and wants. He also is not human anymore. But is he surprisingly more human than most people I know. There are aspects about himself that he is unfamiliar with, even though the reader and the other characters recognize these traits.
I won't go in to too much depth, but I highly recommend this novel. I will be reading the others by this author.
