Description

A teen who reluctantly starts work as a zombie hunter uncovers corruption in his community in this first book in the post-apocalyptic dystopian Rot & Ruin series by New York Times bestselling and five-time Bram Stoker Award–winning author Jonathan Maberry.

Benny Imura lives in a zombie-infested America where every teenager must find a job by the time they turn fifteen or get their rations cut in half. Benny doesn’t want to apprentice as a zombie hunter (or “closure specialist”) with his boring older brother, Tom, but he has no choice.

He expects a tedious job whacking zoms for cash but seeing Tom’s compassion and quiet bravery while killing zombies beyond the wall changes how he sees the world around him…and the older brother he’s kept at a distance since their parents’ death.

But not everyone treats their hunting career as an important vocation. Thrill-seeking closure specialists and greedy citizens endanger the community’s safety. As Benny fights the corruption, he learns what it means to be human.

I read this book back in 2016 when I was 15 and I loved this entire series. It’s 2019 now and I reread and tbh it’s wayyyyy better because i am more emerced into this story.

I am usually EXTREMELY picky about what books I read for instance I have only found three other books in my life time that I have actually enjoyed. Fulfilled my expectations exponentially. Can't wait to read the rest of them.

This book series is completely unlike anything I have ever read. It's so *real*, which isn't something that you get a whole lot from zombie books. The heroes, with all they've been through...they way they deal with what happens to them. It's relatable. This whole book series is relatable. Every time I think it couldn't go any deeper into the truth and emotion, every time I think that there couldn't possibly be someone more psycho than the nutjob in front of me, every time I think the hero might make it, every time I think I know where this is headed, Manerry pulls the rug out from under me and catches me by surprise. Every time. There's no filler in these books. Everything has a purpose in the rhythmic chase towards the end. Warrior Smart.

At first I thought this book was going to be to childish, but I am 20 and I like this book a lot. It was fast paced I thought it gave you good information about the characters. Some of the ending parts are somewhat predictable but worth the read regardless. Worth the buy.
