Review: it’s been a long time since I’ve read this book, but I think I liked it a little bit more than the first one. Fadingkit could barely even feel her paws, she was shaking so much. Excitement pulsed through her, mixed with a little nervousness as well. Her parents were in the den and so were her older siblings. Pearfang was languidly laid out, looking like he was dozing off, while Graysplash and Squirreldash sat next to Fadingkit. “Now, listen,” Graysplash began gravely. “Make sure you listen to your mentor, okay? And always try your best during lessons.” Fadingkit nodded seriously, but then Squirreldash added, “But don’t try too hard, or else you’ll get burned out and lose motivation.” Graysplash looked at her brother sharply. “But that defeats the purpose of Fadingkit giving her training her all.” “Squirreldash is right,” Pearfang chimed in; the three cats jumped, not having realized Pearfang had come over so silently. “If you’re too focused on the end result, it’ll be impossible to focus on what you’re doing in your lessons.” He bent down and winked at Fadingkit. “Make sure you take some time to yourself, too. You can get out of an early patrol or practice by sleeping in. You’ll get in trouble, but sometimes it’s worth it.” “Pearfang!” Graysplash cuffed Pearfang over the ear, but before she could correct what he had said, she was cut off: “Let all cats gather beneath the Fallen Branch for a clan meeting!” Cranestar’s yowl rang through the camp and all its dens, and Fadingkit let out an excited wiggle and hurried out of the nursery. The bright light made her squint at first, but her vision cleared up by the time her kin joined her in the crowd of WindClan cats. Fadingkit accidentally bumped into a bright yellow tabby while she was following her mother. “Oh, sorry!” Fadingkit apologized with a squeak, nervous at the burning hatred in the tabby’s eyes. “You should be, pipsqueak!” she hissed back, swiping a paw at Fadingkit, who darted away, afraid. She hurried over to her kin, watching as the yellow tabby shook out her striped fur in disdain. Fadingkit, sat down by her kin, waited for a while, lost in thought, until she heard her name. “Fadingkit, step forward,” Cranestar beckoned. Fadingkit scampered up in front of the crowd, trying her best to ignore all the stares of her clanmates—especially the glare of the yellow tabby. Also at the front was a pretty she-cat with splotched lilac and blue-grey fur. “Quailpurr, will you teach this kit the ways of the warrior Code and everything you know?” Cranestar asked the warrior. “I will,” said the calico she-cat. Fadingkit touched noses with Quailpurr, feeling a shudder of excitement. “Don’t worry,” Quailpurr mewed gently, so quiet only Fadingkit could hear her. “I’ll teach you everything you need to know to be the best warrior you can be.” Fadingkit blinked up at her new mentor. “Thanks!” she replied happily. As the clan called out her name, Fadingpaw felt energy gathering in her paws. She bounced up. “Can I get the tour of the territory now?” Quailpurr looked taken aback by her apprentice’s excitement. “Of course, Fadingpaw. We can go right now, actually.” Fadingpaw followed her mentor out of camp, eager to see the territory. With such a great mentor, I’ll become an amazing warrior for sure! she thought, padding into the woods. Next chapter is in the next book! - Sunsetsplash

You know because Cedarpaw is still an apprentice “ Sunsetfeather asked her friends. They all looked at her. “ Well kind of. I mean if Halfstar decided to not assess her then she clearly doesn’t deserve to get her warrior name “ Nettlefang said with a shrug. Sunsetfeather knew one of them was gonna say that (mostly because she thought it herself) but she was surprised it had been Nettlefang. He and Cedarpaw were very close and Sunsetfeather was sure they liked each other. Which made her completely furious and jealous of her sister because she had a major crush on Nettlefang. “ Congratulations my kittens! I’m so proud of all of you! And I know you must all be very upset that Cedarpaw has to train for a little longer “ Deerspeckle began but Stumpytail stepped away. “ Um I’m gonna go over to Cloudfern. She’s waiting on me “ he said before their mother could finish. Ambereyes nodded towards Pinefeather and Flytail, waiting for their former apprentices. Sunsetfeather sighed, feeling bad for her mother but also wanting to go to her former mentor. “ Um sorry Mother, but me and Ambereyes are gonna go to our mentors “ Sunsetfeather apologized then hurried after her sister. “ I’m so proud of you Sunsetfeather! You will be an awesome warrior! “ Pinefeather purred. She was about to respond but then Nettlefang came up behind her. “ Hey Sunsetfeather wanna go hunting as warriors with me? “ he asked her. Sunsetfeather stiffened and looked deep into Nettlefang’s gorgeous deep green eyes. “ Um. . .yeah sure why not? Ambereyes you wanna come? “ she asked her sister. “ No I mean just us “ Nettlefang rolled his eyes good-humoredly. “ Oh um, ok? “. As she followed her crush outside the camp, Sunsetfeather couldn’t stop herself from sighing dreamily. •Maybe he likes me?•
