Complex, but not overly so with some humor, very fun!

Well written, and fast paced. It was a joy to read the work of a master writer. The author is one to watch in future works.

This book (and the series as a whole) is such a wonderful collage of the darkness that is inside human nature. Alwyn is never quite the hero of the story, nor do you ever fully expect him to be, which makes for such an interesting viewpoint. Cannot recommend enough if you like a constant mental turmoil combined with subtle magic and combat that gives you goosebumps!

Good book to start the series. Excited to continue reading the rest of Alwyn’s story.

Very entertaining. From someone who has read The Game of Thrones series to The Wheel of Time and all the fantasy and sci-fi in between, this may not be the best, but it’s certainly a good read.

The story building is great and seamless, every character has weight to their story without it being too overwhelming.

I started off disliking the author’s writing style, as it seemed a bit too eloquent. But the dislike quickly faded as I began to really enjoy the characters. He injects just enough humor to make it fun without detracting from the grimness required of this genre, kind of like Abercrombie does. Looking forward to the sequel.

Best book I’ve read in a long time. Kept me engaged the whole way through and I’m excited for the second book. Excellent story telling and descriptive writing. 11/10
