Description

Two writers get a second chance at love in this romantic, sexy-as-hell New York Times bestselling novel.

Eva Mercy is a single mom and bestselling erotica writer. Shane Hall is a reclusive, award-winning novelist. When the two meet at a literary event, sparks fly, raising not only their buried traumas, but the eyebrows of the Black literati. What no one knows is that when they were teenager, Eva and Shane spent one crazy week madly in love. They can pretend they've never met, but they can’t deny their chemistry—or the fact that they’ve been secretly writing to each other in their books through the years.

With its keen observations of creative life in America today, as well as the joys and complications of being a mother and a daughter, Seven Days in June is a hilarious starcrossed romance.

It started off a little slow for me, but once I made it a couple chapters in, I was so pleasantly surprised by this book. It’s so hard for me with current books to find a writing style I like, and it’s even harder with current romances to find a pair I really root for. Despite their unhealthy past, their younger selves did the best that they could for each other at the time, and the current versions of the two characters have so much unconditional love and respect for each other. I loved both main characters, as well as Eva’s daughter, and I procrastinated finishing it because I didn’t want to leave their world yet. My only complaint would be that the end felt a little rushed after everything, but I was still happy with it. There are a couple of sexual scenes, for anyone who wants to know that ahead of reading, but they aren’t a focus of the book and fit in very naturally in the characters’ story. The characters were so vivid and it was the most beautiful book I’ve read in a while. First book I’ve read by this author, but I will definitely read more.

I absolutely loved this book. I enjoyed everything about it, and it spoke softly to my soul, reminding me to remember who I am and what I came to do. I could read more about the characters, especially the therapist in training!

I personally feel like it’s just too much off the jump. The sexual references make it hard to get to the meat and potatoes of the book.
  • Worth more than $3

Read this book in three days between two separate flights and one layover. Surprisingly delightful romantic and sexy all at the same time.

Loved this book! It was perfectly layered and as a Black woman in Brooklyn, I was fond of the settings around the city called out in detail. I also enjoyed all of the past and present story that was built that led up to the climax of the book.
