The bravest of heroes. The brashest of rebels. The boldest of lovers. These are the men who risk their hearts and their souls—for the passionate women who dare to love them…

He is known only as The Rook. A man with no name, no past, no memories. He awakens in a mass grave, a magnificent dragon tattoo on his muscled forearm the sole clue to his mysterious origins. His only hope for survival—and salvation—lies in the deep, fiery eyes of the beautiful stranger who finds him. Who nurses him back to health. And who calms the restless demons in his soul…

A LEGENDARY LOVE

Lorelai will never forget the night she rescued the broken dark angel in the woods, a devilishly handsome man who haunts her dreams to this day. Crippled as a child, she devoted herself to healing the poor tortured man. And when he left, he took a piece of her heart with him. Now, after all these years, The Rook has returned. Like a phantom, he sweeps back into her life and avenges those who wronged her. But can she trust a man who’s been branded a rebel, a thief, and a killer? And can she trust herself to resist him when he takes her in his arms?

  • Unnecessary swear words.

Once again Kerrigan Byrne does not realise how unnecessary the constant F word that peppers her writing is not in accord for the 19th Century when this word was not at all in use. It begun to be used during the Second World War. The story is far fetched but well written and uses a beautiful vocabulary which sadly gets spoiled by these swear words! Please in future stop using these words!

This was a thoroughly enjoyable novel. Sixth in a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Young lovers, separated by many years and the high seas reunite.

4.5* If you like dark historical romance then Kerrigan Byrne is the author for you. This book is so hard to write a review for. There are so many things I want to explain but it would spoil it. Ugh! What to say.... Lorelai Weatherstoke, crippled as a young girl, she was teased by her family and gossiped about by society. She took refuge in healing lost and broken animals. On a rainy night she rescues a terribly hurt man from the side of the road. Taking him home, praying the doctor and time will heal him, she helps nurses him back to the living. Waking from the burning hell with no memory and no clue of where he, he hears the sweetest voice he’s ever heard, Lorelai. During this time Lorelai becomes his world and he will do anything to make her smile. On the day he is well enough and with the promise of employment he leaves Lorelai with the vow that he will return for her. 20 years later he keeps his promise only he’s no longer the Ash she knew now he’s The Rook, the most wanted man in all of England and will do anything to make her his, even kidnaping. Lorelai for everything she’s been through she is a strong, smart and loving woman. The Rook is a legend among pirates who kills and steals with no mercy and nothing can stop him, but a blue eyed sweet talking girl. Your heart will break for these two characters so have tissues handy

Spellbinding, Love Story! This was a brilliant heart wrenching story, filled with drama, danger, action, intrigue, suspense, sorrow, sizzling chemistry, non-stop romantic tension and love. I was wrapped up into this tale like no other. As with all of her books the story pulls you in, leaves you a lit bit breathless and keeps you in its grasp until the end. So expertly written and so beautifully done. The characters are fabulously crafted and gloriously complicated. This had me practically drooling with anticipation from one page to the next. The author balances the dark with the light, witty humor and a sexual tension that adds sizzle to every scene. The Duke With The Dragon Tattoo is intense, satisfying and cleverly unpredictable. This was a slow burn romance that simply charms the reader. Wonderful heroines. Likable heroes. And Romance that made me swoon. You do not want to miss this one. Exquisite! Not enough stars for this one. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lorelei Weatherstoke has been caring for animals since she was a young girl. She started taking in the sick and injured, after a broken ankle, left her crippled. Her brother Mortimer, cruel from the day he was born, often laughed at her and called her duck. But, when Lorelei was fourteen, her world changed. She spotted a boy who was barely alive and insisted that her brother and father bring him home. And although he made a miraculous recovery, he didn’t have a clue, as to who he was. So fourteen-year-old Lorelei, gave the boy a name, Ash Weatherstoke. Ash had every intention of removing Lorelei’s sadist brother from her life. But the day Ash planned to kill Mortimer, Ash was put in chains, and sent away. When he didn’t return home, Lorelei was devastated. Although it took Ash years to come back to Lorelei, he returned to her, as promised. The trouble was, though, Ash was no longer the boy Lorelei knew, but a ruthless, famous pirate; the Rook, aka, King of the Seas. The Duke With The Dragon Tattoo is an unputdownable, engrossing historical fiction romance. The story comes alive with colorful characters, realistic dialogue and an intriguing well-crafted plot. I loved it. Thank you, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.
  • Great addition to the series!

The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo was my first Kerrigan Byrne novel. The novel takes place in two different times. The first when we first meet "Ash" and Lorelei as young adults. Ash was gravely injured and left for dead. This caused him to loose his memory. Lorelei nursed him back to health and in the mean time falls in love with him. Due to unfortunate events, Lorelei is made to believe Ash's memory has returned and left her. Twenty years later, Lorelei is taken on her wedding day after her fiancé and brother are killed. She comes to find out, the boy she knew as Ash has grown up to be the infamous pirate. Ash and Lorelei's relationship is a test of wills. The man she thinks he is, is dead. Lorelei refuses to believe it. She knows he's in there still. The story had heart, action, found identities and betrayal. What I liked is that while there was a lot going on, it continued the story line and character development. A great first read and I'm going back to read "Dorian's" book. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the arc in exchange for this honest review.
