Description

Everywhere, waters are rising--and that's just the beginning of the world's peril unless the NUMA crew can beat the clock in this thrilling #1 New York Times-bestseller from the grand master of adventure.

An alarming rise in the world's sea levels--much larger than could be accounted for by glacier melt--sends Kurt Austin, Joe Zavala, and the rest of the NUMA scientific team rocketing around the globe in search of answers. What they find at the bottom of the East China Sea, however, is even worse than they imagined: a diabolical plan to upset the Pacific balance of power--and in the process displace as many as a billion people.

A rare alloy unlike anything else on earth, a pair of five-hundred-year-old Japanese talismans, an assassin so violent even the Yakuza has disowned him, an audacious technological breakthrough that will become a very personal nightmare for Kurt Austin - from the shark-filled waters of Asia to the high-tech streets of Tokyo to a forbidden secret island, the NUMA team must risk everything to head off the coming catastrophe.

Cussler has a formula and it always works. He starts out with a unique hypothesis, supports it with plausible theories, proceeds with breath-taking action, and finishes with a happy ending. And the cast of characters are all old friends. If you like the genre, you can’t go wrong here.

When Kurt and Joe are in the casino the authors made an error in describing the game Pai Gow......they described the purpose of the game as the winning hand was closest to nine. That unfortunately is the correct purpose for Baccarat. In Pai Gow seven cards are dealt and the best hand is a combination of five of those with two of the leftover cards played as a separate hand But it is only a small part of the story....so no harm

The dilemma of balancing mans ability for advancement vs. the rational and sane oversight is mixed in another fast paced adventure.

I love how this book mixed facts with fiction. I also enjoy all the crew funny comments, off hand jokes. Would like to see you make the lady's more romnandmic in the story.

Solar panels can now collect roughly 1/4 of the suns energy in lab conditions... 10% in real world... so a few feet of solar panels 100% efficient still can’t power much... Talking about futuristic robots is cool though.

I love the Kurt Austin series and this one was no exception. I enjoyed immersing myself in the adventure and the robotics and the suspense. Always fascinating to see how they get out of their seemingly impossible situations. Highly recommend.

The descriptions of Masamune, Muramasa and the Honjo Masamune are pure fantasy.
