Description

With over 10 million copies sold, The Expanse has become one of the biggest science fiction phenomenons of the decade.

The sixth book in the New York Times bestselling Expanse series, Babylon's Ashes has the galaxy in full revolution and it's up to the crew of the Rocinante to make a desperate mission to the gate network and thin hope of victory. Now a Prime Original series.

A revolution brewing for generations has begun in fire. It will end in blood. The Free Navy—a violent group of Belters in black-market military ships—has crippled the Earth and begun a campaign of piracy and violence among the outer planets. The colony ships heading for the thousand new worlds on the far side of the alien ring gates are easy prey, and no single navy remains strong enough to protect them.

James Holden and his crew know the strengths and weaknesses of this new force better than anyone. Outnumbered and outgunned, the embattled remnants of the old political powers call on the Rocinante for a desperate mission to reach Medina Station at the heart of the gate network. But the new alliances are as flawed as the old, and the struggle for power has only just begun.

Babylon's Ashes is a breakneck science fiction adventure following the bestselling Nemesis Games.

"Interplanetary adventure the way it ought to be written." —George R. R. Martin

  • A worthwhile divergence from the proceeding novels

Good story overall. The ending felt a little rushed however.

I love that the main characters have plot armor. I don’t envy the authors the job of thinking up new interesting ways for the characters to narrowly escape. I also love the expanding cast of interesting characters central to the plot. Avasarala is excellent and entertaining as always. I wish they would have done more with Clarissa, hopefully they will in the future. However, the wrap up of this book was very anticlimactic, in my opinion. I would have loved a more satisfying showdown between a few characters. I hope they continue the alien tech narrative. Loose the protomolecule on a new world or something.

One one hand I did love how the authors tied together the end of the Free Navy saga. However, the book could’ve been probably written in half the pages. I felt that this book, more than any of the others, was lighter on action and heavier with filling. Definitely a worth read though.

I’ve read science fiction for almost sixty years now and some books and series of books are the ones I would take to a desert island. This series is one of those as it combines action, ideas, and a great understanding of interpersonal relationships. The family that the characters build is one of the best I have seen in any series. The ending of this book is one of the smartest and most poignant of any of my favorite books. I look forward to more books in the series and extend my deepest thanks to the authors.

This novel is a turning point in The Expanse series. The Free Navy tries to become the liberators of the Belters, but may in fact be destroying mankind throughout the solar system. Captain Holden and his crew get pulled into another war. It seems humanity cannot endure peace for long. A megalomaniac leading the Free Navy must be stopped, along with the traitorous Martians who enabled him. However, can the Earth, Mars, and the moderate factions of the Belt overcome their own differences to fight this battle? In this installment of the series, our crew finds themselves in the center of events. They work together and with new and old allies to overcome the odds and save what they can. The characters continue to mature, while still being comfortably relatable. Another solid installment in a mature series.
  • Boring and tedious

Easily the worst book of the series. It is full of characters and their developments that no one cares about. filled with excruciatingly boring self reflections and “thoughtful” recollections. The whole big alien mystery/artifacts took the backstage in the previous book and plainly missing in this one. The book is a choir and pain to read, horrible endless dull drivel... ughh... just awful.

Sadly the series is starting to turn into a run on sentence…

The most boring of the series, especially compared to the previous one.
