Description

The Insanity of God is the personal and lifelong journey of an ordinary couple from rural Kentucky who thought they were going on just your ordinary missionary pilgrimage, but discovered it would be anything but. After spending over six hard years doing relief work in Somalia, and experiencing life where it looked like God had turned away completely and He was clueless about the tragedies of life, the couple had a crisis of faith and left Africa asking God, "Does the gospel work anywhere when it is really a hard place?  It sure didn't work in Somalia.

Nik recalls that, “God had always been so real to me, to Ruth, and to our boys. But was He enough, for the utter weariness of soul I experienced at that time, in that place, under those circumstances?” It is a question that many have asked and one that, if answered, can lead us to a whole new world of faith.

How does faith survive, let alone flourish in a place like the Middle East? How can Good truly overcome such evil? How do you maintain hope when all is darkness around you? How can we say “greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world” when it may not be visibly true in that place at that time? How does anyone live an abundant, victorious Christian life in our world’s toughest places? Can Christianity even work outside of Western, dressed-up, ordered nations? If so, how?

The Insanity of God tells a story—a remarkable and unique story to be sure, yet at heart a very human story—of the Ripkens’ own spiritual and emotional odyssey. The gripping, narrative account of a personal pilgrimage into some of the toughest places on earth, combined with sobering and insightful stories of the remarkable people of faith Nik and Ruth encountered on their journeys, will serve as a powerful course of revelation, growth, and challenge for anyone who wants to know whether God truly is enough.

Unbelievable story of an Kentucky family becoming African missionaries plus their research across Europe , Asía, Middle Eastern countries . The last three days of reading their story and research have left me speechless at times an at other times tears flowing like rivers down my face . A must read , it will leave you speechless of the ways God is moving across the earth , just like we read in the book of Acts .

I just finished this book. All I can say is wow! I just completed my first prison ministry trip and saw the power of God working in a very dark place. As I connect the dots of stories in this s great book with the I heard in prison it gives me chills. I can not recommend the book enough for a person who wants more.

Amazing, heart wrenching book. I couldn't put this book down. I was so captivated by the stories of the Persecuted Church and yet so convicted by my own complacency. This book is a perfect blend of conviction and encouragement and I highly recommend it for the Western Church believers.

This book is amazing. I began reading this book during a time when I rediscovered my faith in God. I know God is amazing, however I didn't quite understand how amazing he is until I read this book! These stories definitely gave me a new perspective on God, faith, and life. I encourage others to read this book! You won't regret it!

This is a wonderful story that starts with a young couple venturing out to serve God. Through their life experience of following His will they have provided the rest of us a wonderful view of what God is doing in many parts of the world now.

I started reading and wasn't sure what to expect. I had my doubts after reading the title. I'm very glad I read it. It really makes you think about your walk with Jesus and just how committed are you to Him or are you still committed to yourself? God is great and moving and working around the world it is wonderful to finally hear how He is working and moving and shaping the people all over the world. It should be an eye opener to the believers of America.

Awesome! This book caused me to wake up and take notice of my own faith in Christ. I, not unlike many believers in America, have grown up in Jesus. What an enormous, but sadly often taken for granted, freedom! Now I am asking myself, "what am I doing with Jesus?"
