Description

The historical romance that began Joanna Bourne's spectacular spymaster series!

She's never met a man she couldn't deceive...until now.

She's braved battlefields. She's stolen dispatches from under the noses of heads of state. She's played the worldly courtesan, the naive virgin, the refined British lady, even a Gypsy boy. But Annique Villiers, the elusive spy known as the Fox Cub, has finally met the one man she can't outwit.

One of my top two favorite historic romance novels of all time. The other one being Lord of Scoundrels. Yes, two completely different books on account of plot, butt both featuring strong independent female roles (I guess that's my thing), and witty, truly amusing dialogue. Annique is for sure my favorite-st heroine in fiction, beating Jessica from LoS, and perhaps even Elizabeth Bennet (gasp, I did not just say that, ok, maybe Annique is on par with Lizzie). It's so refreshing to read a hist rom with a heroine who can kick some serious as$! She reminds me of a historic romance novel version of Beatrix Kiddo from Kill Bill. Loved the characters, and the plot twists and turns even more, all woven together seamlessly in what I think is one of the MuST ReAD romance novels of all time.
